Join Ken an d Dee Himes on a camping trip to a high desert location that is amazing bot h ecologically and historically. We will explore this fascinating landscape and interesting flora of Lava Beds National Monument and explore the trans itional areas of cismontane/transmontane flora of Burney Falls before headi ng home.
There are caves to explore and a great view of Mt. Shasta; a WW II i nternment camp and petroglyphs are nearby. It is also the site of the Modoc wars. There is a native American trail and the fascinating Tule Lake-Butte Valley museum nearby.
We will drive up to Lava Beds on Thursday and spend th ree nights there, then move to Burney Falls for two nights and return home on Tuesday. Those wanting to see more of the historical attractions at Lava Beds might go a day or two earlier.
