Join co-leaders Julisa Soto and Vicki Silvas-Young for a ;walking tour of the newly installed ethnobotanic garden at this histo ric site. Over 100 locally native plant species are growing in the gar den. Each plant represents its use during one of four major eras of re gional transformation: Indigenous ancestral homelands, the Spanish col onial period, the Mexican rancho era and early American statehood .
Julisa Soto organized community members to create the&nb sp;garden. Each plant tells a story of cultural use, ecological functi on and the deep relationships Indigenous communities have maintained f or thousands of years. As we tour the garden, we’ll learn how traditio nal ecological knowledge continues to influence biodiversity and land& nbsp;stewardship.
