SUMMARY:Tour Roberto Adobe & Sunol House Ethnobotanic Garden (San Jose)
LOCATION:Roberto Adobe & Sunol House Ethnobotanic Garden (San Jose)
DESCRIPTION:Join co-leaders Julisa Soto and Vicki Silvas-Young for a walking tour of th
e newly installed ethnobotanic garden at this historic site. Over 100 local
ly native plant species are growing in the garden. Each plant represents it
s use during one of four major eras of regional transformation: Indigenous
ancestral homelands, the Spanish colonial period, the Mexican rancho era an
d early American statehood.\nJulisa Soto organized community members to cre
ate the garden. Each plant tells a story of cultural use, ecological functi
on and the deep relationships Indigenous communities have maintained for th
ousands of years. As we tour the garden, we’ll learn how traditional ecolog
ical knowledge continues to influence biodiversity and land stewardship.\nT
he garden’s plant list includes maintenance tips for each plant. Visit it h
ere: bit.ly/RASH-garden. The garden is wheelchair accessible on level, deco
mposed granite or brick paths. Light refreshments will be served. \nRSVP is
required to join the walk. No drop-ins please and space is limited. To RSV
P on Meetup, please visit our Chapter’s Meetup group, here: www.meetup.com/
