 "><p>We share the Earth with millions of other species. But our planet is e
 xperiencing a biodiversity crisis, in which a significant portion of these 
 species are in danger of extinction in the coming decades. This loss of spe
 cies – which is caused by human activities – is a tragedy for the Earth's e
 cology and non-human inhabitants, but will also have significant impacts on
  human societies.</p><p>In this talk, we will discuss the causes of the cur
 rent biodiversity crisis, with&nbsp;a focus on California biodiversity. We 
 will discuss which species are most endangered, what we can do to try to li
 mit the loss of species, and efforts underway in our region to preserve our
  local biodiversity, especially endangered plants, invertebrates and animal
  species.</p><div class="page" title="Page 3"><div class="layoutArea"><div 
 class="column"><p><strong>Dr. Lynne Trulio</strong> is a professor and form
 er chair of the Department of Environmental Studies at San José State Univ
 ersity. Her research investigates human impacts to species and habitats, es
 pecially public access impacts to wildlife and the ecology and preservation
  of the western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) in California.</p><p>In 
 addition to her professorship, she was chair of Environmental Studies for 1
 5 years and the Associate Dean of the College of Social Sciences for two ye
 ars. Dr. Trulio was the Lead Scientist for the South Bay Salt Pond Restorat
 ion Project from 2003-2008 and 2016-2018, directing the Project’s science p
 rogram. She received her Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California
 , Davis and her undergraduate degree in Biology from Goucher College in Tow

 d De Anza Blvd. Exit. Travel south on De Anza Blvd. for 1.2 mi. then turn l
 eft onto Rodrigues Ave. Continue for about 0.3 mi., then turn right just af
 ter Torre Ave. into the Cupertino City Hall parking lot. Find parking there
  or continue south in the parking lot, past the Community Hall, to find mor
 e parking and the Cupertino Library on the left. Enter the library through 
 the main entrance on the north side of the building, then go straight upsta
 irs to the 2nd floor and look for the Program Room.</p></div></div></div></
