Native Plant ID (formerly Keying with Na
tives) is a Chapter group that works together to learn plant identification
using botanical keys and other resources. Join us as we look at plant samp
les collected from local gardens and practice methods of identifying the na
tive plants of our region. Feel free to bring in plant samples if you have
some from property where you have permission to collect or just come and wo
rk with the materials provided. We use the current edition of The Jepso
n Manual as well as other plant guides, and we have copies to share.&n
bsp;The Chapter has 10x hand lenses that we can use to look at small plant
parts or bring your own lens. Also bring any reference books that you like
to use.
On Tuesday, January 27, Bruce Homer-Smith wi ll present an introduction to plants of the redwood forest. Bring samp les of redwood forest plants that you are interested in identifying fr om property where you have permission to collect. We are planning a fo llow-up field trip at a date to be determined after the class.
At our Tuesday, February 24 session we will revisit the&nb sp;genus Arctostaphylos (manzanitas) and hopefully schedule a field trip to look at some Arctostaphylos in the field. Any species (preferably not hybrid) Arctostaphylos samples&nbs p;will be appreciated for that session.
The group meets at 7:00pm on the fourth Tuesda y of each month. Join other native plant enthusiasts i n a fun and educational atmosphere, as we hone our skills at plant identifi cation (aka “keying”).

Direc tions to the PCC: From Hwy. 101 take the San Antonio Rd. exit and head nort h. Take the next left onto East Bayshore, which will curve left then right. Take the next right onto Corporation Way. The entrance to the PCC parking lot is the first driveway on the left. The conference rooms are on the firs t floor.
