Join Judy Fenerty and Stella Yang to see the very first wildflowers of the year. Huddart Park features fetid adder’s tongue (Scoliopus bigelovii), a member of the lily family. As this is a dry year, there will be little else in bloom as we hike through a variety of trees and shrubs, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled!
The route will be about 3.5 miles, with an elevation gain of about 500 feet. We will proceed at a very leisurely pace. Bring fluids and lunch, good footwear, and wear layers. Hiking poles are helpful as the trails have many roots and uneven surfaces. For more information contact Judy Fenerty at This email address is being protected from spambots. Directions: Drive west on Hwy. 84 from either Hwy. 101 or I-280 and head through Woodside, turn right on Kings Mountain Rd, look for Huddart Park and turn right. As the entrance booth is likely not staffed in January, bring exact change to pay the $6 cash parking fee at the vending machine. After paying, turn right and drive to the Zwierlein picnic area, where we will meet near the restrooms. Allow a little time in case this lot is full to park at an upper lot. Use caution on the way to the meeting place, there are many bicycles on weekends on the surrounding roads.
