If you’ve wanted to get started with including California native plants in your garden, this talk is for you! Come get inspired with an overview of native plant design basics. Learn how to set functional, aesthetic and ecological goals for your yard and draw a simple plan.
We will discuss the selection of native plants for year-round blooms and how to group them for pleasing design aesthetics, especially during our dry summers. Photos will be shared of attractive garden renovations and groupings of native plants that work well in sun or shade. Become familiar with favorite native plants that entice a variety of pollinators, birds and butterflies to the garden. Native planting design basics work well for a small area with just a few plants or a larger full garden design.
This is the first talk in a three part series. Talk #2 on May 8 will cover native plant garden installation: planting, irrigation and mulch. Talk #3 on July 24 will cover native plant garden maintenance: pruning and garden cleanup.
