Red Hills is a foothill Sierran serpentine region in Tuolumne County, about a two-hour drive from the Bay Area. Join co-leaders Janet Hoffmann and Joe Cernac as we observe, heads bowed to the ground, this flora-rich area.
We will walk two sections, observing what we hope to be an early peak blooming, at the shoulder season between winter and spring. Rare serpentine endemics Eriogonum tripodum, Chlorogalum grandiflorum and Allium tuolumnense are present. Hopefully bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva) will be in bloom.
We will meet at the main parking lot at 9:30am. There is a restroom at the parking lot.
Space is limited. No drop-ins please. For more information including directions and to reserve your spot, please email the trip leaders.
